Kolkata Incident: BJD alleges misuse of CBI by BJP ahead of poll

New Delhi: In the aftermath of the CBI-Kolkata Police faceoff in West Bengal yesterday, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha has condemned it by saying BJP has made it a strategy to use the central investigation for its benefit ahead of polls.

It happened in Odisha ahead of panchayat elections in 2017 in which the saffron party tried to defame the Conch party by engaging CBI. This unprofessionalism, while we want the investigative body to be professional, said BJD leader Bhartruhari Mahtab during Zero Hour in Lok Sabha.

By citing the example of Odisha in his address, Mahatab narrated how CBI officials had barged into the house of a sitting judge in Odisha, a few times back in the name of investigation. The manner in which CBI is functioning these days it only suggests that it is being used as a political weapon alleged the senior BJD leader.

At Bhubaneswar, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra also shared the same opinion and opined: “We are a mature democracy and should maintain professionalism. Even in Odisha, sudden action of CBI ahead of panchayat poll in past and now before general elections smacks of unprofessional conduct and coloured with the political intention.”
