Kolkata doctor rape-murder case: Calcutta HC transfers case to CBI

Kolkata: In the latest development in rape and murder case of 31-year-old doctor in Kolkata, the Calcutta High court on Tuesday has transferred the case to the Cental Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The court have also asked the police to hand over the case and submit papers related to the case to CBI, by 10 am on Wednesday.

The Bengal government has also requested doctors to return to work and resume emergency services.

The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association has announced the extension of its indefinite strike to protest the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said Kolkata Police must complete their probe by Sunday, failing which the state government would recommend a CBI probe if the victims’ parents want

The body of the postgraduate trainee was found inside a seminar hall of the state run RG Kar hospital on Friday morning, who was allegedly raped and murdered. Later, the accused, a civic volunteer was arrested in this connection on Saturday.
