Kerala Imposes Lockdown Till May 16 Due To Surge In Covid-19 Cases

Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the surge in Covid-19 cases in Kerala, a complete lockdown has been imposed in the state from 6 am on May 8 till May 16, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today.

“As directed by the CM, the entire State of Kerala will be under lockdown from 6am on 8 May to 16 May. This is in the background of a strong 2nd wave of Covid-19,” tweeted the Kerala Chief Minister’s Office.

Only shops that sell essential items and hospital visits shall be allowed to open during certain hours that will be scheduled by the authorities.

An official statement from the state government regarding lockdown restrictions is yet to be issued.

On Wednesday, Kerala recorded 41,953 fresh coronavirus cases in the highest single-day spike so far.
