Kashmir: Militants Carry Out Grenade Attack At Srinagar’s Lal Chowk

Srinagar: Amid tightened security arrangements for Republic day, three grenade attacks were reported in the Kashmir valley. While one explosion occurred in Shopian, the other two blasts took place in Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar.

In Srinagar, the first explosion took place at Zero Bridge in which three state Police officials and two traffic policemen were injured. On Friday, a grenade was hurled near the Clock Tower at Lal Chowk are of Srinagar.

At Shopian, the grenade attack took place at Gagren Camp, which was formerly a Jammu and Kashmir Police Special Operation’s Group Base and now houses the Additional SP’s office. A grenade was also hurled at a Police Station in Pulwama.

In a statement to local news agencies, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A case has been registered against unidentified miscreants in all the three incidents. In the first week of January, terrorists had hurled a grenade at the 132 battalion of CRPF near Palladium Chowk at Lal Chowk in Srinagar. However, no casualties were reported.
