Justices Dinesh Maheshwari, Sanjiv Khanna take oath as Supreme Court judges

New Delhi: Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna were administered the oath of office as the judges of the Supreme Court by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi on Friday.

The swearing-in ceremony of Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna was held in court number 1.

With the swearing-in of the justices, the strength of the apex court judges has now gone up to 28 against the sanctioned strength of 31.

While Justice Maheshwari was the chief justice of the Karnataka High Court, Justice Khanna was a judge in the Delhi High Court. Their name for elevation as Supreme Court judges were recommended by the apex court Collegium comprising CJI Gogoi and justices A K Sikri, S A Bobde, N V Ramana and Arun Mishra on January 10.

Justice Sanjiv Khanna would be in line to become CJI after Justice DY Chandrachud in November 2024.
