Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde takes oath as 47th Chief Justice of India

New Delhi: Justice Sharad Arvind Bode took oath as the forty-seventh (47th) Chief Justice of India on Monday.

President Ram Nath Kovind  administered Justice Bobde the oath of office at Rashtrapati Bhavan here little while ago.

Justice Bobde succeeded justice Ranjan Gogoi, who retired on Sunday. He will have a tenure of around 18 months till his retirement on April 23, 2021.  He has become the eighth (8th) CJI whose parent high court is the Bombay High Court.

On October 29, President of India Ramnath Kovind signed the warrant appointing Justice SA Bobde as the next Chief Justice of India.

Justice Bobde was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court on April 12, 2013. He was part of the five-judge constitution bench which delivered the landmark Ayodhya verdict.
