Jammu and Kashmir: Two terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the Army and police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday. Also five security personnel were injured, including three Army personnel and two police officers, one of whom was an Assistant Superintendent of Police.
As per South Kashmir DIG Javed Ahmad Matoo, a significant arsenal, including advanced rifles was seized after the encounter.
The DIG also stated that, “Police, Army and CRPF took part in this encounter. 2 terrorists were killed and a lot of arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession. It is very difficult to identify the dead bodies. The investigation is going on and we have taken DNA samples.”
All the injured personnel have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. The operation is still going on. Two terrorists believed to be still trapped.
According to sources, security personnel had launched a cordon-and-search operation in Adigam village, systematically combing through homes to identify the terrorists.
“According to the input, one of them is Umesh Ahmed Wani, a resident of Chawalgam village in Kulgam. He belonged to the TRF (The Resistance Front) and was active in Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, and Anantnag districts, with several FIRs registered against him. The second individual is Aqib Sher Gojri, who was associated with the terrorist organization and had been involved in numerous terrorist activities for the past 2.5 years,” the police officer said.
However the identities of the slain terrorists have not been officially confirmed yet.
Reportedly the terrorists initiated hostiles, firing at security personnel which led to an intense exchange of gunfire between the security personnel and terrorists.
The Kashmir Police Zone tweeted that the encounter has started at Adigam Devsar area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job.
