J&K: Soldier, 2 Militants killed in Anantnag Encounter

Srinagar: A day after an Army major was killed, another soldier and two militants were killed on Tuesday in a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police sources said.

The encounter was resultant of a joint search and cordon operation by the Rashtriya Rifles and special operations group following intelligence inputs earlier in the day.

The slain soldier was initially injured in the encounter but later succumbed to injuries. Two other soldiers have also been injured. They have been shifted to hospital, the sources added.

While the encounter is still underway, the police said one more terrorist is believed to be still hiding inside a building in the area. All of them are suspected to terrorists of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

The bodies of the killed militants are yet to be recovered. More news is awaited.

On Monday, Army Major Ketan Sharma was killed and three soldiers were injured in another encounter with terrorists in Anantnag.

The serial attacks come within 48 hours of Pakistan’s information to India and USA about a possible attack on the security forces in Kashmir, like the February 14 Pulwama strike in which over 40 CRPF soldiers were killed.
