J&K Police guns down LeT terrorist, foils weapon snatching bid

Srinagar: J&K Police gunned down at least one ultra of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) after it foiled an arms loot bid by the militants in Achabal area near here on Saturday.

The killed militant has been identified as Bilal Ahmad, a resident of Tantraypora of Kulgam district.

Police said, a group of militants boarding at least two cars struck a police picket this morning and opened fire at cops. As they tried to snatch away sophisticated weapons kept there the cops deployed on duty immediately swung into action.

Bilal was killed in the exchange of fire which took place between the policemen and the terrorists in which a cop also sustained minor injury.

The injured cop has been admitted to hospital and his condition is stable.

Police have also seized the two cars which the terrorists used.

Notably, the killed militant was involved in an arms snatching case on a previous occasion and was orchestrating terror attacks on security forces in Achabal area.

Search operations have been intensified in the area following the incident to nab the escaped ultras.
