Japanese Encephalitis Claims 23 lives in Bihar

Muzzafarpur: As many as 23 children have reportedly lost their lives in Bihar after the fresh outbreak of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) here.

Several children are admitted to the hospitals with high fever whose health condition is still critical. As per reports, in Muzaffarpur district alone, 12 children have died in the last one week.

Meanwhile, medical experts have claimed that the outbreak of the disease has happened after a gap of three years. It occurs only when heat coupled with high-level humidity rises to an extreme level. The disease is controlled with the onset of monsoon.

Doctors claim that lack of awareness can be the main reason for the outbreak of the disease. Locals mostly choose quacks and black magic over modern medication due to illiteracy.
