Jammu: Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway came to halt after a heavy avalanche hit the Jawahar Tunnel on early Tuesday morning. The avalanche created a massive blockade and paralysed traffic movement.
The avalanche hit the northern side of the Qazigund area of Jammu and Kashmir. As per reports, rescue operations are underway. There are no reports of casualties yet.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy snowfall and blizzards in Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days. Srinagar has been recording sub-zero degree temperatures for a while now and the temperature is expected to dip further today owing to the ensuing cold wave.
