Srinagar: Two suspected militants were killed and six security personnels sustained grievous injuries in a fierce gun battle in South Kothair area of Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar city on Wednesday.
According to Police reports, the gun fight between militants and security forces started around 2 am on Wednesday. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation after receiving intelligence inputs about some terrorists hiding in the area.
The killed militants have been identified as Sabzar Sofi and Asif Ahmed Gojri from Anantnag. Sabzar Sofi was a PhD scholar.
Meanwhile, keeping in mind the law and order situation, Internet connectivity has been snapped in Srinagar and Budgam. Schools and colleges in Srinagar district have also been closed.
The security forces have also seized large quantities of arms and ammunition from the encounter site.
