ISRO launches GSAT-29 Satellite from Sriharikota

Sriharikota: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Wednesday successfully launched the communication satellite GSAT-29 this evening from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota of Andhra Pradesh.

The heaviest ever launch vehicle GSLV Mark-III was launched from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 5.08pm.

Around 17 minutes after its lifting off, the GSLV MkIII-D2 placed GSAT-29 in a geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) with the required inclination to the equator

Some days later, the satellite, carrying GSAT-29 weighing 3,423 kg, will be placed in its final geostationary orbit (GEO) using the onboard propulsion system. It will be located at 55°E longitude.

The three-axis body-stabilized multibeam satellite is designed for a mission life of 10 years.

The mission assumes significance, as its success would qualify the national space agency’s fifth generation launch vehicle GSLV-Mark Three, for regular launches of four-tonne class payloads. It is also set to provide a further fillip, to the prestigious Chandrayaan-II mission that is being planned early next year.

The satellite GSAT-29 will help increase the speed and quantum of data transfer, paving way for hi-speed communication even in remotest parts of the country.

Meanwhile, ISRO Chairman K Sivan congratulated the entire ISRO team saying, “Let me congratulate the entire team for this wonderful achievement.”

“This particular satellite is going to provide services to the remote place in India, especially in J&K & northeast India under Digital India program of Government of India,” he added.
