New-Delhi: The Israel government has approached India to recruit 10,000 construction workers and 5,000 caregivers to address skill shortages in its infrastructure and healthcare sectors amidst the ongoing war with Hamas.

The NSDC said that Israel’s Population, Immigration, and Border Authority (PIBA) has put in a request for workers across four specific job roles which includes framework, iron-bending, plastering, and ceramic tiling.

A team from PIBA will visit India to conduct skill assessments and select candidates according to their criteria. The recruitment drive for construction workers will be held in Maharashtra.

Israel requires 5,000 caregivers to bolster its healthcare services. Candidates for this role should have studied till the Class 10 and possess a certificate from a recognised Indian institute. Additionally, a caregiving course with at least 990 hours of on-the-job training is necessary for the eligibility as reported by India Today.

In an earlier recruitment round, 16,832 candidates appeared for skill tests, and 10,349 were selected to work in Israel’s construction sector. These selected individuals will earn a monthly salary of Rs 1.92 lakh, with added benefits like medical insurance, food, and accommodation with a monthly bonus of Rs 16,515.

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) reached out to all states to carry out recruitment after the government-to-government (G2G) agreement was signed in November 2023. The first round of recruitment drive was carried out in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Telangana.
