Is ‘Mosque’ mandatory to offer ‘Namaz’, SC to decide today

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will give its judgment on the need of a mosque to hold Namaz or prayer for the Muslims, a decision crucial to decide whether a temple could be built at Ayodhya or not.

The verdict of the apex court aimed at revisiting its 1994 verdict in which it had said that the Namaz could be offered anywhere and a mosque is not essential for it. A decision which later paved way for Judges making hearing in the Ayodhya case to divide the disputed land into three parts in 2010.

In case the court today allows reviewing its 1994 verdict then the hearing in the land dispute case will be deferred till the delivery of the judgment in the new case.

Muslim groups have petitioned that the 1994 verdict has a bearing on the Ayodhya land dispute case and is need to be reconsidered.

On the other hand the Uttar Pradesh Government has opposed the petition by accusing the Muslim groups of trying to delay the judicial process in Ayoudhya land dispute case.

In 2010, the Allahabad High Court had ordered for the partitioning of the disputed land at Ayodhya by splitting it equally among three parties namely, the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
