IndiGo's Hyderabad-Shirdi flight marks the beginning of night landing services at Shirdi Airport. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis shared pics
Maharashtra: In a major achievement for Maharashtra’s aviation sector, Shirdi Airport has started night flight operations. This was done on the occasion of the Gudi Padwa festival, which is a celebration of the start of the new year in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted the photos of the first night landing, an IndiGo flight from Hyderabad landing at Shirdi Airport under a grand water cannon salute. Fadnavis described the night landing as “a big leap” that would boost connectivity for the followers of Shri Sai Baba across the globe.
The night flight operation license was awarded to Shirdi Airport by the Director General of Civil Aviation in 2023. But the flights during the night could not start previously because a large number of airlines were not willing to fly during that time. Till now, the airport had only working hours from 10 am to 6 pm during the day. With the runway being recarpeted and other modernization, the airport will have long working hours.
