New Delhi: The Union government on Friday sent an extradition request to UK authorities and requested the latter to deport Nirav Modi, who decamped after committing a $2 billion scam in the Punjab National Bank. As per the information conveyed by the Ministry of External Affairs, two red corner notices have also been issued against the absconding businessman who has been residing in the UK after fleeing India.

According to the MEA, the extradition request has been sent to the High Commission of India (HCI) London, through a Special Diplomatic Bag from where it would be transmitted to higher officals in the UK.

Notably, Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi  are the main culprits in the PNB scam which rocked the entire nation. However, the duo fled the nation on January 16 this year, even before the matter came to light. While it was recently discovered that Choksi has become an Antiguan citizen, Modi has been allegedly hiding somewhere in the UK.
