New Mutant Covid Strain Reaches India, 6 UK Returnees Test Positive
Delhi: New Coronavirus strain has reached India, with six UK returnees testing positive for the new variant, said the government today.
Three samples were found to be positive with the new variant in National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences ( NIMHANS ) Bengaluru, two in Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology ( CCMB ) Hyderabad and one in National Institute of Virology ( NIV ) Pune.
All the patients have been kept in isolation in appointed health care facilities by the respective state governments.

Their close contacts have also been kept under quarantine whereas contact tracing has been started for co-travelers, other family contacts, said the government in a release.
The new Covid strain of UK is believed to be 70 percent more infectious.
