India reports 1.94 lakh fresh Covid cases, Omicron tally at 4868

New Delhi: India logged 1,94,720 lakh new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases in India to 3,60,70,510, of which 4,868 cases are of the Omicron variant, according to the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday.

Reportedly, the total number of fresh COVID cases is up by 26,657 (15.8%) as compared to yesterday.

As many as 442 more people succumbed due to the virus in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total reported death count to 4,84,655.

However, the active Covid cases in the country stand at 9,55,319, the highest in 209 days. The daily positivity rate stands at 11.05%.

Meanwhile, a total of 4868 Omicron cases were reported in India so far, according to the data by the Union Ministry of Health. Maharashtra has the highest number of cases (1,281) of the new variant, followed by Rajasthan (645) and Delhi (546).

It is to be noted that India has now begun to administer the precaution dose of Covid vaccine to healthcare and frontline workers and people with comorbidities aged 60 and above.

The Centre has now mandated seven-day quarantine for all international arrivals from January 11.
