New-Delhi: India on Saturday reported 62,258 new cases of the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day rise in more than five months, taking the country’s infection tally to 11,908,910, informed the Union ministry of health and family welfare.
India also recorded 291 deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours, the highest daily toll since December taking the toll to 1,61,240.
Five states Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat have reported a surge in new infections.
Among these, Maharashtra continues to be the biggest contributor to daily tally of the country as the state clocked in 36,902 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.
