India gets its first dengue vaccine QDENGA, know eligibility, number of doses
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation has approved its first dengue vaccine, called QDENGA developed by Japanese company Takeda
New Delhi: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) approves India’s its first dengue vaccine QDENGA (TAK-003). It is developed by developed by Japanese company Takeda.
The approval comes after India has world’s highest dengue cases over the past two decades. The reasons for this is said to be urbanisation, climate change, changing mosquito habitats and population growth.
QDENGA is a live-attenuated tetravalent vaccine which is meant to protect all four types of the dengue virus. This is not only for people suffering from dengue or had suffered but also for the people who have never experienced it.
The vaccination can be taken without any blood test and is approved for people who are 4 to 60 years old. Vaccination is completed in two doses; you can only take the last dose after three months of the first one.
The vaccine will help to reduce severe dengue cases and hospital admissions. But Public is still advised to take precautions and stay protected against mosquito bites. Don’t avoid applying mosquito nets, repellents, and maintaining cleanliness.
