Husband strangles wife to death in Delhi hotel, arrested after confessing to police
24-year-old man arrested for strangling wife in Delhi hotel room over suspected infidelity, flees to Mathura before capture.
New Delhi: A man was arrested after he admitted to murdering his 24-year-old wife on suspicions of infidelity and she was found dead in a hotel room in Delhi. The crime was committed at the New Victoria Hotel located in the Paharganj area, where the couple had registered for a stay on June 20.
The suspect, 24-year-old Gopal Sharma, escaped to his hometown in Mathura after murdering his wife Kriti Sharma, and he was arrested by local authorities and later taken into custody by Delhi Police.
Reportedly, Gopal Sharma had left the hotel at about 9 pm, stating he was stepping out to get food, but, rather, had escaped to his hometown in Mathura. He subsequently owned up to the crime by making confession calls to 112, indicating that he had murdered his wife. Based on this tip-off, Mathura police picked him up and handed him over to Delhi Police.
The accused, on being interrogated, confessed to the murder, attributing his actions to mistrust of his wife’s alleged affair as the motive. The argument turned into a rage and Sharma strangled Kriti to death in a bout of fury. The police have filed an FIR for murder and arranged for a post-mortem examination of the body. An effort is being made to notify and approach the family of the victim.
The motives for the couple’s travel to Delhi from Mathura are not yet clear, and the police are probing into the nature of the occurrence. Gopal Sharma is in jail currently, and further investigation is underway to find out the series of events precisely.
