Kolkata: In a bizarre turn of events on Tuesday, a man was found with rotting 18-day old body of his mother.
Maitreya Bhattacharya, 38, was found today at their Salt Lake City residence with the decomposing body of his mother, 77. Upon confronting, he clarified that both of them had converted to Christianity, and in their personal belief dead body must be kept for 21 days before burying, reported TOI. He added that he was waiting for an auspicious time to bury the body at home while talking with TOI correspondent.
Maitreya had contacted one of his acquaintances regarding help in burying the body. The said person contacted a relative who is also a CBI officer. The officer in turn contacted local Police.
Maitreya is borderline schizophrenic and his family was never very social. His father had also passed away a few years ago in mysterious circumstances.
When this article was being written, the Police were trying to locate kin of Maitreya but were unsuccessful. As of now, he is now in Police custody.
While the whole country is in festive mood for Christmas, this horrid news has shocked everyone.
