Himanta Biswa Sarma Set To Be Assam’s New Chief Minister
Guwahati: After days of speculation, BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday was elected as the next Chief Minister of Assam.
The announcement came after the newly-elected legislative members of the assembly ratified the decision during a meeting in Guwahati.
Biswa is currently the Assam Health Minister, was elected as the legislative party leader during a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party.
The meeting was attended by Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar and party General Secretary Arun Singh as central observers. Baijayant Panda, BJP’s Assam in-charge will also be present on the occasion.
Earlier today, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal tendered his resignation to the governor.
