Himachal Pradesh: Death toll in Solan building collapse rises to 13

Solan: As many as 13 people, including s12 Army personnel and one civilian, lost their lives and 25 others were injured after a four-storey hotel collapse in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district. It collapsed on Sunday evening after heavy showers.

Nearly 15 civilians, including the eatery’s staff, were also present inside the building on Nahan-Kumarhati Road near Solan, some 55km away from Chandigarh.

The dead now includes 12 soldiers of the Indian Army and the wife of the building’s owner, according to officials.

Nearly four more people, including one soldier and three civilians, were still feared trapped in the building. Twenty-seven people, including 17 soldiers and 11 civilians, have been rescued from the debris.

The initial rescue operation was launched by the Indian Army, CRPF and local police. Two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams including one each from Haryana’s Panchkula and Shimla’s Sunni reached the incident site on Sunday night to carry out the rescue work. The third NDRF team from Panchkula reached Solan on Morning to join the rescue operation.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has ordered a probe into the Solan building collapse incident.
