Haryana to provide pension to ex-panchayat heads

Chandigarh: The Haryana government has decided to grant pension to former village heads, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitis from across the state.

Finance Minister Abhimanyu said about the decision in an official release on Tuesday.

According to the official release, only village heads or chairpersons elected after 1994 will get the pension benefit.

A former village head will get a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 and a former Zilla Parishad chairperson will receive Rs 2,000, while a vice-chairperson will get Rs 1,000, according to the statement.

The former head and vice-chairperson of a Panchayat Samiti will get Rs 1,500 and Rs 750 respectively.

As many as 25,336 people will be given the pension benefit at a total outlay of Rs 30.6 crore annually. The rules have also been framed for this pension and those who are eligible will get the benefit, it added.
