Gurugram woman sets herself on fire after lover’s suicide

A 30-year-old woman died allegedly after setting herself on fire in her room as she was distressed by the suicide of her lover, police said on Tuesday.

Gurugram: A 30-year-old woman died allegedly after setting herself on fire in her room as she was distressed by the suicide of her lover, police said on Tuesday.

“The woman burned herself late Sunday night. She was taken to the civil hospital in a critical condition and was referred to Delhi’s Safdarganj Hospital, where she died during the treatment late Tuesday evening,” according to the SHO of Sector 37, Inspector Sunita.

The woman identified as Manju, was reportedly from Bihar. She worked for a private company and lived in Sector 37 in a rented apartment.

According to the police, she was having an affair with the owner of a grocery store, Babulal, who committed suicide on Sunday evening by using an illegal gun.

Subsequently, after getting information about the demise of her Babulal, who was married, Manju poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire late Sunday night, the police said.

Police said no suicide note was found, and the post-mortem will be conducted on Wednesday.
