Gurugram Bus Conductor Awarded 20 Years Sentence For ‘Digitally Raping’ 4-Year-Old

Gurugram: On Monday, a city court in Gurugram sentenced a 21-year-old man to 20 years imprisonment for digitally raping a four-year-old girl onboard a school bus in August 2016. For starters, ‘digital rape’ is the act of raping someone using a finger or multiple fingers.

The accused, identified as Shambhu, hails from West Bengal. He was a bus conductor working with a prestigious school in Haryana’s Gurugram. He was put behind bars at the time of the incident following a widespread outrage by parents of school-going children, who raised legitimate concerns about the safety of their wards.

Over two years after he was arrested, additional sessions judge Rajni Yadav on Monday sentenced the accused to 20 years of imprisonment. The court also directed Shambhu to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 failing which, he will have to serve an additional sentence of six years.

In their complaint to the Police, the girl’s parents had alleged that the accused had sexually assaulted her in the school bus approached near their residence in the Sector 56 area. The matter came to light when the minor complained to her parents about pain in her thighs. Doctors suggested that she might have been sexually abused.

On being asked, the girl told her parents all about her ordeal and an official police complaint was lodged at the Sector 56 police station and Shambhu was nabbed.
