Gujarat’s Patidar leader Hardik Patel joins Congress
Patel also attended Congress’ grand rally in Gujarat with AICC chief Rahul Gandhi, Gen Secy Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi
Gandhinagar: Gujarat’s Patidar leader Hardik Patel on Tuesday joined Congress in presence of AICC president Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi.
On Sunday he had tweeted, “To give shape to my intentions to serve society & country, I have decided to join Indian National Congress on 12th March in presence of Shri Rahul Gandhi & other senior leaders.”

“Mahatma Gandhi started Dandi March this day and said he (Mahatma Gandhi) will overthrow the British. I am joining the same Congress party which, in the past, has been led by Subhash Chandra Bose, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, the people who worked to strengthen our country,” Hardik Patel said after joining INC.
Hardik Patel had spearheaded the movement for reservation in government jobs and college admissions for the Patidars in Gujarat. His outfit Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti had declared their support to the Congress party in the local body elections in 2015 and assembly polls in 2017.
It is rumoured that Hardik will fight from Gujarat’s Jamnagar constituency which is currently held by Poonamben Maadam of the BJP.
The Indian National Congress’ top leaders were at PM Narendra Modi’s stronghold- Gujarat for the party’s Working Committee meeting in Ahmedabad. Then they held a grand rally in Gandhinagar where Patel was also present along with other leaders.
