Govt bans Yasin Malik’s JKLF under anti-terror law

New Delhi: The Union Government on Friday banned the Yasin Malik-led separatist outfit Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) under anti-terror law, officials said.

The separatist outfit has been banned under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, officials added. Its chief Yasin Malik is under arrest and at present lodged in Jammu’s Kot Balwal jail.

The move comes nearly a month after a major crackdown on separatists in the valley in which 130 separatists from the Jamaat-e-Islami (Kashmir) and the Hurriyat Conference were arrested, including JKLF Chief Yasin Malik and Jamaat-e-Islami chief Abdul Hamid Fayaz.

Earlier this month, the Union Home Ministry also banned the Jamaat-e-Islami for a period of five years for alleged anti-national and subversive activities as part of a crackdown on separatist groups operating in the Kashmir Valley.
