Government librarian kills self over three months unpaid salary in Karnataka

Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old librarian took her life at the Aarivu Kendra (Knowledge Centre) in Karnataka’s Kalaburgi district. She took the step after not receiving her salary for the past three months. She has left a death note before ending her life.

The deceased has been identified as Bhagyavathi, lived in a rented house along with her husband who is a coconut trader, and two children, was reportedly facing severe financial difficulties.

On being informed about the incident, the Malakhed police reached the site and began an investigation. She took her life inside the library in Malakhed Gram Panchayat, Sedam Taluk. We have found a death note and are verifying its authencity.

Initially, the family hesitated to file a complaint, but later they agreed. No named were mentioned in the complaint, said police.

The husband informed that she was depressed over non-payment of salary past three months.

The investigation is underway, police official said.
