Goddess Samaleshwari temple to be erected in Delhi

Bhubaneswar: Goddess Samaleshwari, the prime deity of Sambalpur will be worshipped now in the national capital.

Also called Samlei or Samalei, the Goddess is worshipped in the temples at Sambalpur, Balangir, Bargarh, Tushra and many other places of the western part of Odisha. However, now the Odia diaspora of Delhi has decided to erect a temple in Delhi which will be dedicated to Goddess Samaleshwari.

Recently the ‘sankalp puja’ for the erection of the proposed Samaleshwari temple was held at Tyagraj Nagar in Delhi. More than 200 Odia people from different organisations took part in the worship. And in the preparatory meeting, which followed the ‘sankalp puja’, all of them gave their nod to provide complete cooperation for the proposed temple.

A Senior member of Juhar, Delhi intimated that the temple will be erected in Delhi NCR. “A Working committee has been constituted for the acquisition of land and construction for the proposed temple,” he also intimated.

In recent times, Delhi is the second home for many educated youngsters from western Odisha. These people celebrate Odia festivals, like Nuakhai, Puo Juintia, etc. in Delhi following the typical tradition. Since long they had planned for the said temple which is going to be materialized soon.

The proposed temple bears much significance as it would be a matter of pride and glory for the people of western Odisha in Delhi.
