Food on Trains set to be Costlier

Bhubaneswar: Well get set Food on Trains are all set to become expensive, and so are beverages!!!

Ready to pay Rs.50 instead of Rs.20 for a simple cuppa tea???

The rates will however be updated in 15 days and applicable after 4 months.

According to the circular issued by the Director of Tourism and Food Department tea, snacks and food on board the Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto are going to cost more.

One has to however book all these food items in advance to avail Food on Trains. Passengers on other train will also have to shell out a neat pie. Inflation is the major reason for this hike.

As per the new rates applicable for Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi trains, the passengers of Second AC will now have to pay Rs 20 for tea, instead of Rs 15 for Sleeper class passengers.

In Duronto’s sleeper class, breakfast or food was earlier available for Rs 80, which would be Rs 120.

The price of evening tea is going to increase from Rs 20 to Rs 50.

With a whooping rise of Rs. 100 in the 1st AC coach meals will be available for Rs 245 instead of Rs 145.

It is noteworthy that the last hike was in 2014. A regular vegetarian meal will be available for Rs 80 in regular and express trains, instead of the current price of Rs 50.

The Railway Board according to the circular has said that it has decided to increase the prices on the request of IRCTC and the recommendations of the Man & Tariff Committee constituted by the Board.
