FM has colluded in a criminal running away from country, he should step down: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley alleging that he has colluded in a criminal (liquor baron Vijay Mallya) running away from the country.

Rahul’s demand came a day after Mallya, who is facing money laundering charges in multi-crore fraud case in India, claimed that he met the Finance Minister before leaving the country.

Addressing a press conference here today, the Congress President said “Vijay Mallya yesterday said that he met Arun Jaitley ji in the Parliament before leaving. Arun Jaitley writes blogs on all meetings but I don’t know why there was no blog by him on this meeting. He (FM) said that he spoke only a few words to him (Vijay Mallya), which is a lie.”

“The Finance Minister talks to an absconder, absconder tells him that he going to London. Finance Minister doesn’t tell CBI, ED or police. Why? The arrest notice was changed to informed notice. This can be done only by the one who controls CBI. The FM has colluded in a criminal running away from the country which is against the law and the country. Therefore he should resign from his ministry,” demanded Rahul.

Notably, Mallya while speaking to the newsmen in London yesterday said, “I met the finance minster to settle matters before I left. The banks had filed objections to my settlement letters.”

However, Jaitley denied the Mallya’s claim saying it as “factually false.”
