Fire Breaks Out At Covid Hospital In Gujarat, 18 Dead

Gujarat: As many as 18 people died in a major fire that broke out in a Covid care hospital in Gujarat on Saturday.

Among the 18 deceased people, there were two staff nurses who lost their lives, informed Zuber Patel, trustee of the COVID care centre.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 12.30 am today at Patel Welfare Hospital in Bharuch.

On getting the information, the fire fighters immediately arrived at the spot and rescued the patients. The flame was doused within an hour. Meanwhile, the patients were shifted to other hospitals.

More than 50 patients were admitted in the Welfare Hospital out of which 12 patients in the Covid-19 ward died due to the fire and resultant smoke, added reports. It is still not clear whether the remaining  six people died at the hospital or during they were shifted to the other hospitals.

The Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani expressed condolences to the patients, doctors and hospital staff who lost their lives in the fire accident. He announced that the state government will provide assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each of the victims of the accident.
