Dr Reddy’s Labs denied approval for Phase 3 trial of Sputnik Light vaccine

New Delhi: Indian drug regulatory body has denied permission to Dr Reddy’s Laboratories for conducting phase 3 trials of the Russian Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik Light in India.

According to sources, the subject expert committee of drug regulatory body did not find any scientific reasoning to conduct phase-3 trials. Hence did not consider Dr Reddy’s application seeking to carry out trials in India.

It is noteworthy that after launching Sputnik V, Russia introduced a new single-dose vaccine, Sputnik Light, in May.

Sputnik Light has also been developed by the Russian ministry of health, the Gamaleya National Research Centre of Epidemiology and Microbiology and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

India has mainly been using two vaccines Covishield and Covaxin in its largest vaccination drive.
