Srinagar: An Army officer was killed in action on Wednesday during an ongoing operation in the Assar belt of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir. A civilian also sustained injuries.
The incident took place while the security forces were conducting a search operation in the densely forest area.
According to sources, the encounter was conducted in a forested area during a cordon-and-search operation, or CASO, launched by a joint security team to track down the terrorists hiding in the Shivgarh-Assar belt.
Acting on a tip-off, the army held a search operation where the terrorists were hiding last evening. There was exchange of fire between the terrorists and army.
The security forces recovered United States-made M4 assault rifle and four blood-soaked rucksacks, containing equipment and logistics, from the encounter site.
