DGCA issues safety directions to all airports for monsoon wildlife activity

New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a safety direction to all airports asking them to take precautions during monsoons as the wildlife activity has increased around airports.

Reportedly, the decision of safety direction came after two aircraft returned to their airport of origin due to a bird hit.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also directed the authorities to ensure frequent runway inspection for bird activities and regular disposal of garbage in the area, among others.

It is pertinent to mention that a Delhi-bound Spicejet aircraft, carrying 185 passengers, landed safely back in Patna right after take-off as its left engine caught fire.

Locals noticed a fire in the aircraft & informed district & airport officials. The SpiceJet flight returned to Patna after a bird hit and one engine shut in the air.

In a similar incident on the very same day, the pilot-in-command of an IndiGo-operated Airbus A320neo plane VT-ITB, operating flight 6E-6394 from Guwahati to Delhi, decided to take the flight back to Guwahati on a single-engine after the aircraft suffered a bird hit, which resulted in one of the engines getting damaged when the aircraft was at an altitude of 1,600 feet.
