Delhi rain: Building collapses due to heavy downpour, 8 hospitalised

At least 8 people were trapped under the debris of the building that collapsed in Delhi due to continuous rains.

New Delhi: A wall collapsed due to heavy rain overnight in the Hari Nagar in Jaitpur area of South East Delhi on Saturday morning and at least 8 people were trapped in it.

The Additional DCP South East, Aishwarya Sharma said, “There is an old temple here, and next to it are old jhuggies where scrap dealers live. The wall collapsed due to heavy rain overnight. 8 people were trapped and were rescued and taken to the hospital. They are undergoing treatment. We don’t know how many people died, but according to us, 3-4 people are seriously injured, who may not survive. We have now evacuated these jhuggies so that no such incident occurs in future.”

The Fire brigade received information about a building collapse in Hari Nagar area and rushed to the spot for the rescue mission.

Incessant rains in Delhi since last night has disrupted the traffic and also affected air travel. Indigo and Air India issued travel advisory for the bad weather. As the streets were flooded, normal life was thrown out of gear. The IMD had issued a red alert for heavy rainfall with lightning and thunderstorms.
