Cyclone Tauktae: IAF Deploys NDRF Teams From Pune & Kolkata

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed two C-130J and an An 32 aircraft for the transportation of 167 personnel and 16.5 tonnes of equipment of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Kolkata to Ahmedabad for cyclone Tauktae.

IAF had also deployed 5xC-130 and 3xAn-32 aircraft for transportation of NDRF personnel and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) equipment from Pune, Kolkata and Vijaywada to Ahmedabad on Sunday.

On the same day five teams from Pune based 5th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also airlifted to Gujarat. In view of the extremely severe cyclonic storm, the IAF stepped up its efforts to assist the NDRF teams.

Earlier on Saturday, five teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team from Odisha had left for Gujarat to join the post-cyclone rescue and relief operation.

The cyclone Tauktae is very likely to move north-northwestwards and reach Gujarat coast on Monday evening. It shall cross between Porbandar & Mahuva (Bhavnagar district) during 8 pm to 11 pm as a very severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 155-165 kmph gusting to 185 kmph, informed Indian Meteorological Department.

Heavy to very heavy rains is expected at a few places in the districts of Saurashtra including Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Boatd and in Diu whereas in the districts of Gujarat region including Valsad, Navsari and in Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, further added IMD.
