Cyclone Phethai makes landfall in Andhra Pradesh

Katrenikona: Cyclone Phethai has finally made landfall near Katrenikona in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh this afternoon.

Heavy rains and winds experienced in many areas of the district while the entire Konaseema region is receiving heavy rainfall following the landfall of Cyclone Phethai.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has alerted the people to be careful and stay indoors. Besides, it has deployed as many as 12 NDRF teams in various places of the district to face any possible untoward incident and for rescue operations, if needed.

“We are bracing up to face Cyclone Phethai. Response teams and officials numbering more than 10000 are stationed as part of disaster preparedness. Hoping that the loss of life and property will be minimal,” said Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh.

Meanwhile, speaking about the impact of Cyclone Phethai in Odisha, SRC Bishnupada Sethi informed that some districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati and Kalahandi will receive heavy rainfall. However, there will be no effect on coastal areas of the state.

Sethi also said that control rooms have been put on high alert in the said districts.

Gajapati district administration is said to have shifted 11600 people of seven vulnerable blocks of the district to safer places.
