Cyclone Fengal: Heavy rain expected in southern India, see detailed reports here

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Fengal is expected to bring heavy rain in southern India, an alert has been sounded in Chennai on Tuesday. Four districts have been kept on high alert.

According to reports, Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts are likely to experience widespread moderate to moderate rain today, that is on November 26, 27 and 28, with heavy to very heavy rain at a few places, the Chennai Meteorological Department has announced.

A depression has been centered over the Bay of Bengal has turned into a deep depression. Tomorrow that is on November 27 the depression is expected to turn into a cyclonic storm. The cyclone has been named Cyclone Fengal by Saudi Arabia. A group of 13 countries selects neutral names for cyclones in the Atlantic and the Southern Hemisphere. The naming sequence begins with Bangladesh, then India, Iran, Maldives, and Myanmar. Subsequently, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a rough sea warning for coastal areas of Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kanchipuram, Nagapattinam (North) districts. It has urged the fishermen not to venture into the seas. It will intensify further and is likely to take the form of a cyclone. International weather forecasting scientist, Jason Nicholls has forecasted the path of this cyclone.

It will move towards Tamil Nadu and further towards Sri Lanka. However, in most likeliness, it will weaken before crossing the land. This probable cyclone ‘Fengal’ will have no impact on Odisha as were weather forecasts.
