Cyclone Amphan likely to make landfall in Myanmar on May 3

New Delhi: The weathermen have forecast that a cyclonic storm is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal and make landfall in Myanmar around May 3. The cyclone will likely be named as Amphan.

The Skymet weather on Wednesday said, a cyclonic circulation has formed over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining South Andaman Sea. The presence of a cloud cluster in that area suggests the formation of low pressure in the next 24-36 hours.

The favorable environmental condition indicates the further strengthening of depression in the subsequent 48 hours, the Skymet added.

Initially, the depression will keep moving northwestward and also linger a little longer in the sea to intensify to a cyclonic storm. The cyclone will likely to recurve while over Southcentral Bay and head towards Myanmar/ Bangladesh, the Skymet further said.

Under its influence, heavy to very rainfall at a few places likely over Nicobar Island on May 2 and heavy rain at isolated places on May 1st and May 3rd over the same region, said the IMD.
