New Delhi: The online booking for the booster shots will begin on Saturday where one can book their slots on CoWIN. The central government’s huge plan to start administering booster shots of the Covid-19 vaccine is set to begin on January 10 (Monday) for senior citizens with co-morbidities in India.

Reportedly, the senior citizens do not have to produce a doctor’s certificate to receive the booster shot.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday said that the schedules will be published on January 8 and the online appointment facility will also start by today evening.

The booster shot for healthcare workers, frontline workers including personnel deployed for election duty, and persons aged more than 60 years with co-morbidities will be starting from January 10 under the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme. The private hospitals can provide the precautionary dose from January 10 for free to their staffers or can charge for it.

“Precautionary COVID-19 vaccine dose will be the same vaccine as has been given previously. Those who have received Covaxin will receive Covaxin, those who have received primary two doses of Covishield will receive Covishield,” NITI Aayog member (Health) Dr V K Paul said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the remarkable feat achieved by the country of administering 150 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

It is to be noted that the eligibility for the precaution dose will be based on the date of administration of the second dose as recorded in the CoWIN system, which will send a text message for availing the precaution dose when it becomes due, the guidelines stated.
