CDS chopper crash: Mortal remains of Jitender Kumar reach Bhopal

Bhopal: The mortal remains of Naik Jitender Kumar, who was among those killed in CDS chopper crash in Tamil Nadu, were received at Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj airport at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday. Kumar was with CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others in the chopper that crashed near Coonoor on December 8.

Wrapped in tri-colour, Kumar’s mortal remains were received at Raja Bhoj airport in the state capital Bhopal in full military honours. A guard of honour was also presented to him.

The body was then carried in a special vehicle to Sehore district, around 60 km away. The funeral will take place later in the evening on Sunday. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with other senior ministers will visit Kumar’s family and pay homage to the departed soul.

Family members of Naik Kumar and people of his village – Dhamanda have been waiting to receive the mortal remains for the last 5 days after the Mi-17 V5 chopper crashed that led to the demise of India’s first CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brig L.S. Lidder and others on December 8 in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor area.

Naik Jitender Kumar was one of the security staff of General Rawat.

Lance Naik Jitender Kumar served in the Desert Sector along the Indo-Pak border, on the India-China border near Pithoragarh, and in J&K. He was expert in sniper and specialist in communications.
