CBI Opposes Bail Plea Of Lalu Prasad Yadav

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday opposed the bail plea of Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Supreme Court, saying that the leader is likely to engage in political activities and misuse the bail grant ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

At present, Lalu Prasad Yadav is lodged in the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, serving a jail term in connection with the fodder scam.

Yadav has challenged the January 10 verdict of the Jharkhand high court dismissing his bail plea.

The three cases in which Lalu Prasad Yadav has been convicted are related to the over Rs 900-crore fodder scam, which pertains to fraudulent withdrawal of money from the treasuries in the animal husbandry department in the early 1990s when the state of Jharkhand was part of Bihar.
