Can you take the Covid Booster Dose? Know eligibility, slot booking details and required documents

Even though it seems to be under control, the effect of Covid-19 is far from over across the World. In view of the rise in Omicron variant of Covid-19 cases, the Indian government has declared the booster dose of the Covid vaccine. The booster dose will be rolled out for the citizens from January 10, 2022. However, the booster dose of Covid vaccine is limited to Healthcare workers, frontline workers and senior citizens.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi announced on December 25, 2021 (Saturday) that children of age group 15-18 will be administered with COVID-19 vaccines from January 3, 2022. Meanwhile, the booster dose will be administered to Healthcare workers, frontline workers and senior citizens from January 10, 2022.

Eligibility

As reported by various sources, if you are a Healthcare worker or frontline worker you are eligible to get a booster dose/ precautionary dose. The only thing that you should keep in your mind is that the gap between the 2nd dose and booster dose should be between 9-12 months.

On the other hand, senior citizens with specific co-morbidities are eligible for a booster/ precautionary dose.

Certificates required for vaccination

The senior citizens have to carry a medical certificate that shows the type of co-morbidities that they have. The certificate should be given by a registered medical practitioner and has to be scanned and uploaded on the CoWIN portal. It can also be given at the vaccination centre.

According to the official data of the Indian government, more than 137.5 million people in the country are above the age of 60 years. The people among them that have co-morbidities are eligible to take the booster dose of the vaccine.

When it comes to vaccination of children between the age gap of 15 to 18 years, Covaxin is the only Covid-19 vaccine that can be administered. The Covid-19 vaccination drive in India began on January 16, 2021. The registration for children aged 15-18 years will begin from January 1, 2022 on CoWIN app.
