Gurdaspur: In a tragic incident, a BSF jawan was injured while preventing a major tragedy targeting force personnel and farmers in Gurdaspur area of Punjab.

According to reports, on the intervening night of April 8 and April 9 an incident occurred when a BSF party, during an area domination patrol ahead of the border security fence during night, detected suspicious items well inside the Indian territory.

During this operation, the troops identified a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted ahead of the fence, indicating a clear attempt to target security forces and farmers.

Further inspection revealed a network of concealed wires in the fields, confirming the presence of multiple IEDs. While cordoning off and sanitising the area, the detonating device of the IEDs, which was concealed, accidentally got triggered off, resulting in a serious leg injury to a BSF jawan.

BSF Bomb Disposal Squad thoroughly searched the area and after sanitizing the area diffused IEDs in situ and ensured safety of the area: The Public Relations Officer, Punjab Frontier of Border Security Force informed.
