BJP’s Pramod Sawant likely to be new Goa CM
Panaji: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and Goa Speaker Pramod Sawant is set to be the new Chief Minister of Goa, party sources said.
Sawant is likely to be sworn in as Goa Chief Minister at the Raj Bhavan at 11 pm tonight, sources added.
The move came following the demise of Manohar Parrikar. He passed away after battling pancreatic cancer on Sunday and was cremated with state honours here on Monday evening.
Born on April 24, 1973, Sawant was first elected to the legislative assembly in 2012 and retained his seat in 2017.
The coalition government includes the BJP with 12 MLAs, the Goa Forward Party-3, the MGP-3 and 3 Independents.
