Delhi: BJD MP Dr Achyuta Samanta today participated in the discussion on the Arms (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha today. The Biju Jatanata Dal (BJD) has supported the bill.
Kandhamal MP from Odisha Dr. Achyuta Samanta supported the Bill today in Lok Sabha on behalf of BJD.
He said, “Keeping in view the increasing number of crimes in these days there is need for amendment in the Bill. The amendment will be instrumental in lessening number of crimes in many aspects.
Adding to that Dr Samanta also discussed over use of old arms, users of different types of weapons and the validity period of an Arms’ license as well as sale and transport of arms.

It is worthy to mention here that the Arms (Amendment) Bill, 2019 has been passed by the Lok Sabha today.
The said Bill seeks to reduce the number of licensed arms per person and to increase the quantum of penalties for violation of the law.
Since last few years celebratory firing has become a big menace. However, after introduction of the Amendment Bill Celebratory firing will be punishable.
Quantum of punishment for illegal manufacture, import or export, possession or buying and selling of firearms without permission has been enhanced. The license period for firearms would be increased from three to five years.
